Default 94 4x4 swap

Ive wanted to do a 4x4 swap on my truck and a 4 inch lift for a long time. The biggest thing in my way was my gears, which were 3.08 (Because I have a 4.9 and would go up to 33 inch tires). About a month ago I had to rebuild my rear axle and I figured that since I had it all apart I might as well go ahead and re'gear, and I put in 3.73's.

Well now that thats done Im getting the urge to 4x4 swap again. I need help though (obviously why im here). I dont want to have to cut into my floorboard, so I want to do a push button 4x4 system like they have in the XLT models. What all do I need? I know ill need a transfer case and a different driveshaft, but will I need a new transmission? New Front Suspension? What all computer wiring will need to be done to make the push button 4x4 work? any help is appreciated guys.

Some details about my truck, 1994 F150 XL Single Cab Long bed, 4.9 I6, 3.73, RWD, E4OD Transmission.

I don't know about the push button system - I am guessing it is much more difficult and will require more wiring.

Your best bet would be to find a donor car that is 4WD, single cab, long bed - you will need the transmission, transfer case, front axle rotor to rotor (I would grab radius arms and all), both driveshafts, dash bezel with switch and 4WD indicator lights - there's more I am forgetting I am sure.

Other things to keep in mind - 4WD trucks sit higher in the front. They use the same springs though. 4WD trucks also have different leaf springs in the rear that are wider (3" instead of 2.5" wide) and they also have factory 2" blocks. So if you want a true 4x4 conversion you will need the hangers, shackles, and springs from a 4x4. Also if you have sway bars the rear links are different so you would need those as well.

And then you will need to re-gear the front axle to 3.73.

If you haven't figured it out by now, it's a lot easier to just buy a 4x4 and fix it up

If you want to do a conversion use a manual shift transfer case. The wiring to add in an electric shift is just not going to be in any way simple. Cut a hole in your floor. It might even already be there with a plate over it. Should at least be a pattern for the hole molded into the floorpan.
