Default 92 F150 5.8 runs horrible

I have a 1992 F150 5.8 4x4 auto. I started up the truck one morning to warm it up and it started fine. When i came back, it was off and wouldnt restart.

Had a friend come by and found that it didnt have spark. I tested the ICM and it was fine, so i replaced the ignition coil. The truck then fired right up.

The problem is that it now runs really bad. Truck wont go above 2k rpm, takes about 5 minutes of full throttle to get up to 50mph, also is making popping noises from my air intake and back exhaust.

Took it to a friends to work on and the truck wouldn't restart. Checked for spark again and wasn't getting any. I changed out the pickup sensor, the icm and another ignition coil, still didn't give spark.

I pulled the ecm and found it burnt up. I just replaced it and the truck fired right up. Only problem is, its doing all the same things as before with the horrible idle and acceleration, popping noises.

I need guidence.

something apparently is over voltage/over current....what is your battery voltage? You might check alternator and grounds..

interested in seeing what this may be

So i just checked the voltage of the battery. It reads 12.00. I also had to jump it earlier today cause it was dead from sitting so long. I then took a reading while the vehicle was on.

When i first started it, it was in the range of 13.70 to 13.80. After it dropped rpms, the range dropped to 12.90 to 13.30. During all of theses reading the voltage was jumping all over the place but where mainly in between what i wrote.

I also did a test of the voltage under a load. With the headlights on it was 12.50 to 12.80 and then adding the heater it was 12.30 to 12.40.

Im also smelling alot of fuel as well.

Should read 13.8 to 14.3v.

You still need to dump the codes. These year models basically self diagnose a lot of the issues they can have. I believe there is a sticky somewhere here on how to do this test. If not, let me know and I will find you a link. It's VERY easy once you know what to do.
