Default LSD for 91 F150?

I looked at my rear end and It's the 3.08 open diff. I'm looking for preferably a 4.10 LSD/Posi/Trac. Do I have to buy new, or can I get something from the junkyard?

What do y'all recommend?

I had 3.55 LSD in my '96 with the 8.8" and the 300 six motor. Should be able to find one of those albeit not easily. Mine also had a LSD in the front as well.

Check the yards for F150's or Explorers with a Traction Lok. Both are 31-spline and interchange. There are some Explorers with 4.10's, probably 4x4 models. You'll probably find more with 3.73's.

I don't know what your goal is. Towing something very heavy?. I would not make such a change. Mileage will surely suffer.

Will do. I'll look for f-150 axles because I've heard the exploded axles are narrower.

More for off-roading and messing around. I don't think she'll be towing anything...

Perhaps I misunderstood your intent. If you want to swap the entire differential then you will need to get one from a F150. You may be looking a long time before you find that in your local yard. Your best bet may be a 1st generation Lightning,

If you are just looking for the gears & traction lok unit this will add the option of finding this from an Explorer as both are 8.8 differentials using 31-spline axles. The Explorer center section will fit right into your current F150 rearend. Lots of people have done this for a cheap upgrade. Always rebuild the clutch packs when you have it out. Of course, you can order new gears and a Traction Lok and do this with new parts.

I put a TrueTrac limited slip and 4.10 gears in my 92 Bronco. It was more costly than an old TracLoc but I didn't want to have to replace clutches a few years down the road. The TrueTrac has worm gears instead of clutches. It's still holding up 12 years later.
