Thanks Sean. We'll give it a try this weekend. (I use the term "we" loosely, as I am the designated pit tootsie & researcher!) Wish us luck, as I am growing tired of being grounded without my truck.

Hi Guys, 91 F150. My wipers work on low and high but on delay they wipe one time. I replaced the wiper governor with a new one and still the same problem. Is the dash switch bad?

Thanks
Wayne

Hello Wayne. Was your "governor" the little black box bolted to the underside of the dash by the parking brake? If so, did you buy it at Ford or a salvage yard?

yes, the little black box with 2 wire pigtails on it. Bought it new from a chain auto parts store.

Do they park on their own?

I believe this is a very factory-specific module. I don't know if I would trust a chain store's box.

Yep, they park ok. Everything plugged in and the piece looked like an exact duplicate. I took the old one apart and couldn't find any broken solder joints or wires. Was wondering if the delay side of the switch could be the problem. Doesn't matter if I turn it all the way left or just a little. They wipe once and quit.

It's probably the switch then. You can see if you can clean the part of the switch that the metal tab drags across. If it doesn't get used much it can get rusty or built up with crud. I haven't seen the back side of this switch but most are the same.

Cool Justanold

This is a worn/gummed up switch that has a special grease inside of it to promote proper operation. If washed out the switch will actually be worse than it is now. Replace it with a new one.

Justanoid may be right. However it is possible to blast the grease and dirt away with some contact cleaner (brake cleaner could work too). Then inspect the contacts and clean them with an emory board or a strip of 200+ grit sandpaper if they are accessible. Then, spray the contacts with a light coat of silicone spray or possibly a little white lithium grease. This will retard oxidation in the future.
