89 F150 No Start
I have an 89 F150 with the 5.0, automatic, long bed with dual tanks.
What is the probability that both fuel pumps quit at the same time?
Truck got recent tune up and intake manifold gasket about 3k ago
I was accelerating up a hill and noticed that the rear tank was getting low on fuel, so I switched to the front, which is full, and it died. I let it sit for a bit, and it restarted on the rear tank, so I move it to the house, switch it to the front in idle and it was fine as it should be. Then in the evening I took it on a short 3 mile trip to the local mall, and I noticed a buzzing when it first started but it quit almost immediately and it was running fine so I went. Sat for 2 hours, started up, thought I heard the same buzzing but again it quit so I drove, well almost home and it starts to stutter and die in traffic so I make for the shoulder, I actually made it up into a driveway before it did. I let it sit for a while, tried to start it on the front tank, switch to the back, it started. I went home and decided to grab a fuel filter as that was the only part of the tune up I had not done. So I hopped in it and drove it to oreillys, no issues, bought the filter and started up the hill (I live less than a 1/3 mile from Oreillys) and it quits after some sputtering. I let it sit for about 5 minutes, try switching back and forth between tanks, get it started on the rear, drive it to the front of the shop, let it sit in idle on the front tank for about 5 minutes and it quits again and it won't restart, I replace the fuel filter, lots of pressure the tank side of it and black coming out the engine side. Put on the new filter, it won't start even after allowing time to prime, hooked up a battery box and sprayed starting fluid in the intake, it fired and idled, I walk away since it seems fine, come back and its barely running, dies, now it won't restart at all no matter what tank I select, I hooked up a pressure tester and get nothing

You should have 3 fuel pumps on that system. 1 low pressure in each tank and a high pressure on the frame. Its sounds like the high pressure is going bad if you get low pressure from both tanks. Also its always a good idea to pull codes. The ecu tells you a lot about the engine.

So I replaced the high pressure pump and it still has no fuel pressure :/
I can hear the frame rail pump running.
Switching issue?
