87 Ford vs 97 Dodge
Hey guys, a buddy of mine wants to race his truck with mine. I'm pretty sure I'd lose but, there are some interesting points. Just wondering what you guys thinks. My truck is the 87 ford 1/2ton, 302 EFI, 4x4, 4spd, custom fabbed intake, straight piped exhaust, and geared at 3.55. Her truck, 97 dodge 3/4 ton, 5.9L, 4x4, automatic, tow package, and cheap off brand Cat-back exhaust. I know shes got probably a good 20 or 30 horse on me. But I'm alot lighter, and have a manual tranny. What the chances of actually beating her lol?

Back up to his rear bumper and drop a chain and see how he acts. In a race he'd probably get you on take off since you have 3.55 gears.

Just call me sean. Really
The dodge wins. I've watched a bone stock 2500 on 35's and a terrible driver running 19.1 in the quarter mile. If you want to race one on stock tires, you have no chance! But if it's on 35s and you're still stock tires then it could be close

Dodge: OBDII better engine control , sequential fuel injection for more efficient burn and atomization, bigger engine and longer stroke for more torque and horsepower, factory cold air intake provides more low torque, cross over exhaust for better scavenging and increased torque. Thinner sheet metal, lighter suspension , and I believe aluminum heads.
Ford: possibly a few pounds lighter, ( assumed ) warm air fabricated intake reduces torque over factory cold air only effective for mpg. Bank fire fuel injection creates puddling at intake. 10 more years on system. Distributor ignition less efficient. Shorter stroke smaller motor less HP and torque. Straight pipe exhaust with no crossover reduces torque. Manual transmission for better power control. Heavy twin I beam front suspension.
Unknown: condition of both vehicles, drivers skill, tire size, true weight of the Dodge. Factory components removed from Ford exhaust and intake creating unknown performance issues.
Likely outcome Dodge win.
