have a 94 with a rebuilt 351 (5.8). the a/c compressor has been having issues so we just unplugged it. now i seem to get 11 mpg going an average of 45 even though the engine has at least 340 hp. its got the edelbrock performance upper intake, some kinda bbk throttle body, flowmaster 44 exhaust, k&n cold air intake.

I get 11-12 around town, normally and 16-18 on the highway. I get 15-16 when hauling my atv in the bed.

96 F150 5.8L E4OD 3.55LS 4x4 supercab with 178,000+ miles.

sadly witht eh stock camshaft and low compression heads there isnt much you can do...

if you want mileage then a Head change is a MUST....more compression is the key and a cam that works with those heads is a great step in the right direction...

its either that or forced induction...

Well if I end up getting this truck on Sunday I'll be doing an engine rebuild eventually. Within a few months.
Was thinking GT40 heads, MAF conversion, long tube headers, etc. I'm open to suggestions.

Default 1996 4WD XLT with Camper Shell

I am getting 18.5 on the highway so long as I use a zero-ethanol premium fuel and run 65-70.

the only current modification I have is a K&N filter. I am adding an electric fan conversion as soon as I confirm the MPG's from the filter change with a second 37 gallon fuel up. I am hoping to get to 20 after that install.

When I was buying the lowest priced fuel and running a Fram paper filter, I was getting 10.5, mid-grade got me 13, paper filter and premium was good for 15.5.
