Default 5.8 5 speed f150?

Hey everyone I know there is a lot of post about a 351 swap but I'm in the position to do a swap now. I have a 1995 f150 4x4 5.0 5speed and wanted to put a 351 one in it but I've been reading and the mazda 5 speed in it won't back up to it which is fine because I need a new tranny anyways. Now my question is can I find a 250 with a 351 5 speed and swap all the components and is the transfer case different. Thanks for the comments in advanced

Well if you need to get a new transmission anyway, you could either way. Now is the time to do it since you will have half of it disconnected anyway. I have heard alot of people destroying the M5od and most everyone loves the Zf trannys. I personally have not had any problems with my M5od and I beat the snot out of it with a 302 and right now I am building a 351 for it but I am only 2wd dont know if that makes a difference. We will see I guess. Good luck with your swap and happy motoring.

Owning a truck with a Mazda 5-speed and having driven a 351 F-250 with a ZF as a work truck, I can tell you the ZF will not be as "quick" as the mazda tranny. Most of the time I'd just start the 250 in 2nd gear. Great for pulling, damn near indestructible, but it is most definitely a "truck" transmission. The Mazda trans, on the other hand, makes my 302 feel downright peppy in a half ton. At least until I lifted it and put bigger tires on (needs lower rear end gears).

Also, I haven't had any issues with the Mazda trans in over two decades, and in some of that time it pulled a pretty heavy 3 horse stock trailer. Needs shift forks and a clutch now, but I'm going to attribute that to normal wear and tear.

The only problem ive had with my 5spd is that i cracked the tail shaft housing so its ratchet strapped to the cross member. That and mine shifts kinda hard and has a little play in the shifter but thats expected from a trans with 167k on it.
