Default 400hp 351W Trans Selection

I know this is in the F150 forum, but someone here can probably help. I have a 97 Ranger with a 1994 roller 351w and a T5 transmission out of an early 90s Mustang. The previous owner has done all of the work, I just obtained it. I'd like to build up the motor: cam, heads, intake, etc. but I'm worried about the T5 holding up with that much torque. I think it's already about at its limit with the stock engine. What other manuals would bolt up to the 351w and fit under the Ranger? I'm thinking a sturdier, built T5, or maybe an M5R2. A zf probably wouldn't fit well. Thanks!

If it's a stock 90-93 T5 the stock TQ rating is 300ft/lbs. Most of the time though the clutch gives out before the trans does when you up the power. Since you already know the trans works fine with the engine you have I'd just have yours built up and put a good, upgraded clutch in it.

Check out the info on this page. http://www.moderndriveline.com/Techn...t5_history.htm
