This is tempting to do, but I need a timing light. What is the "Spout" though?

The Spout is SPark Out. As the rpms on your truck rise, the SPOUT advances the timing. If you do not unplug the SPOUT when you time your truck, you will time it inaccurately

And that's the distributor cap where the wires plug in, right? I really am lost as to all this terminology...

The distributor cap is the round cylinder with the wires sticking out yes. Under that cap is the rotor button. The spout plug is a one or two wire plug very close to the base of the distributor or sometimes by the relays on the drivers side by the firewall. But if you don't know what the distributor is, I suggest you have someone help you set the timing..
