Hi,

I have an 89 4.9L w/ a 4 speed. it recently started to knock when it is at idle and under a load. the knock seems to go away while i am revving in neutral. my question is how do i determine what type of knock it is? or has any one else had a similar problem?

knock is a rod or a tick is a lifter....with exceptions....

 

i crawled under the truck and the sound is much louder, coming from the oil pan.
if it is the rod, is there and tricks to getting it fixed without ripping it all apart?
