Default 4.9 Inline to 5.8 swap

Hello again, it's been a while

My tryck ran out of oil today, it turns out that the engine just can't hold the oil inside anymore, and urges to share it with others. Therefore I'm now trying to figure out what I need to install 351 Windsor. My first guess was that it will take at least an engine, but obviously there will be a bit more parts required. I was looking at this one.

The question is - which parts from my old 4.9 will fit this "new" engine? What new parts will I have to buy? Maybe someone already did something like this?

The best route is to find a doner truck with a 5.8 you'll have everything you need to make the swap.

I know. I wish it was that easy in Russia There's a Bronko for sale with 5.8, but it has about 300.000 miles on it.

You're looking at a lot of money for the swap if you can't find a donor, especially being in Russia. I doubt that free shipping applies for you.

Yea, i did a small research about it. It turns out that a rebuilt 351W will be $3k in the USA, plus about $700 for shipping, customs fee not included. And I'll get only a block with heads, pistons and crankshaft. It doesn't seem to make a lot of sence. I found a disassembled engine in Russia, with about 150-170k miles on it. Owner says that it has everything including frame mounts, water pump, intake, etc. I guess it will be easier and cheaper for me to rebuid this engine than to get a "new" one from the USA. That guy also has front end, rear end and a t-case, so it'll be possibe for me to convert to 4x4 as I'll be replacing the engine. I'll create a new thread (or will use a "search" button) with further questions about 351W engine as soon as I get it.

that sucks that your 4.9l crapped out on you the 5.8l is one hell of an engine i might have a shot at getting a 5.8l out of an old plow truck i am wodering if you would need to change the transmissions as well. i have the mod5 and i think they used them on the 5.8 as well right? anyways it sounds like alot of work and costs are going to be crazy for shipping alone

The M5OD was used on 4.9s and 5.0s. 5.8s got the ZF but the SBF bolt pattern is the same between the 4.9, 5.0, and 5.8.

It seems to me that it won't be the hardest thing to make M5OD fit 5.8. In worst case flywheel can be replaced with something alike from a Russian truck and drilled to fit the clutch. The question is, will M5OD last with 5.8L, but I have a lot more questions to be answered before this one
