38 gallon rear tank
http://powerstrokenation.com/forums/...ad.php?t=29893
Hope the link works but it's a thread about a 38 gallon tank that was a oem option on 87 to 89 f150 and f250. This is not a Bronco tank. Was thinking about putting parts together to do this. For road trips this would put me at north of 50 gallons of fuel. Anyone have this option?

I have a 2wd, I don't drive the truck much in the winter but the extra fuel weight would be fantastic for traction. Puts the spare six inches lower but that would work still.

just pull one of these with you on a long trip, no gas stops from Maine to Cali.
I had never heard of the 38 gallon option, sounds good in theory but for long trips I always stop every 4-6 hours for bathroom/stretch breaks so I could easily be refilling while emptying my bladder. Seems like it would be easier to just toss a few sand bags in the bed for more winter traction.

in the original installations, the Bronco and F series, these tanks often had major issues. The tanks were so big, and so poorly supported that the seams would split and leak.
I had two replaced for leaks and a split seam driving the roads in DC, down NY Ave and such - all on a brand new Bronco, before Ford said the next one they installed would be the small one.
Sometimes a good idea, is messed up by poor design or execution.....

Dodge+Ford = always ready
you can buy a "kit" from spectre to put a 38 gal rear tank in. or you can just buy a bronco tank and get the right hardware. pretty straightforward swap really.
unless you have a single tank, then that would be a pain.

The thread I referenced gave an lmc part number that includes pickup and strap extension. Seems like the only modified parts outside of the kit are the float arm and the spare tire carrier. I really might do this if I can find a donor in the jy. When we hit the road we like to drive thru the night and having over 50 gallons of fuel you sure wouldn't need to worry about stopping to fill up.
