Default 302 and 351 the same??

Going to put a 351 in my 94xlt regular cab. And want to know if the alt, bracket and Ac/PS brackets are the same, between the 302 and 351?? Just want to make sure, so if I need to get them I can before hand...

I heard that the 351w is a super pain in the *** to put in, and unless you can metal fab it will be super hard. But I have never done it.

Depends on year.

351 is an inch taller, all the bolt holes are the same but the bracket from the water pump to the heads might not fit.

I was going to use a 351 from a king cab truck..My truck is 1994 with maf, and the motor I am looking at is from a 95. But have also been debating, if not the 351 swap, might swap Gt-40 heads on my 302 with a better(cam) Not lookign to blaze the track, but more of a work horse..

Its not hard.. It shoud drop right in. You can use the same Exhaust manifolds. The intake manifold is different. I honestly cant remember on the brackets.

The exhaust manifolds are different. The deck hight on a 351 is 10.5 and the deck height on a 302 is 9.2 I think. If all you need is the brackets, look at your existing brackets. They should have two sets of holes to accomodate either the 302 or 351.This is for the A/C and P/S bracket. The alternator bracket is the same. You will need to change the belt to accomodate the 351.The oil pan is different.Make sure that you have the one for the 351.What year is the 351 again? If it is a 95,it will have the factory roller cam. That engine is rare.I do not even think that the 95 Lightning had the roller cam.Does your truck have the 13725548 firing order or the 15426378 firing order? If it has the 15426378 firing order, then you will have to change either the camshaft or the PCM.If it has the 13726548 firing order, then no changes have to be made. The flywheels are also different.Make sure that you use the one for the 351.It will vibrate if you do not.The balance of the engines are 50.0 for the 302 and 28.2 for the 351.Hope this helps you out.

The motor is from a 95 truck. Not sure on the firing order though, but that doesn't matter. I plan on freshening the motor up and want to change cams anyway..

It's my understanding that the 5.0L HO engine has a different firing order than other 5.0s due to the use of the 351 cam which requires the 351 firing order. Basically the 3 and 7 cylinders are swapped with the 5 and 4 cylinders in the order, putting each 360 degrees out of their standard 5.0L firing order phase to agree with the 351 order. (Remember, a complete combustion cycle has 720 degrees of rotation - two times around).

I made the swap from a 302 to a 351W in my 1992 F150 4x4 about 1 year ago. The front brackets all fit, but the belt length did not come out to the factory 351 length. If the AC is not on it makes squeal when starting.
I am not sure if the factory 302 exhaust manifolds will fit. THe 351 has 1" more deck height, the manifold outlets are turned down more on the 351. I ended up putting short headders on.

The BIGGEST problem I had was getting all the emissions stuff to line up. The cross over tube on the back of the head does not fit. I found some stainless tubing and extended.

If you have a manual trans you will need a 351 flywheel. I believe the balance is different than the 302. I am not sure on auto trans...

I used a Crane Cam (0.530 lift 208 Intake 218 Exhaust) that runs pretty well with the speed density system. If you look for this cam the Mustang cam is the same and lists for $100 cheaper in Summit. I have GT40 heads, stared with a truck 351 intake then switched to a GT40 intake, the Intake made a big difference, but was A LOT of work getting all the sensors moved in the wire harness.

I still want to swap to a Mass Air Flow setup so I can use the tuning software I have for the Mustang, but have not got it done at this time.

Good Luck
