On my 95, the fuel pressure regulator went out. That made some trash get stuck in the valves. That was late last fall, so I have to run some Seafoam in it this spring (I don't drive it in winter).

My 95 also ticked before, and it ended up being a loose spark plug

Oil pressure is good. I'm considering all new lifters. Not quite sure how to tell if a lifter is bad or not.

Much more than a tick lol. With no exhaust on the truck you could still hear it plain as day

If you have the Mazda 5 speed it will bolt up to the 351 fine, as noted above with the proper 351 flywheel, but it might not live too long with the increased power. Ford did not offer the Mazda box with the 351.

Yeah that's what I'm afraid of. Especially considering this is most likely the stock tranny

You could find a ZF. But that can be a hard search, and expensive.

What about converting to an automatic tranny? Or would that be just as big of a pain to find?

I have heard of people doing the swap from manual to automatic. I have no idea if it is hard to find a auto tranny with all the the necessary components. I think there are a few threads on here about the swap.

Did they not have automatics on 351s and such back then?

They had automatics on them, I almost bought a 95 with a 351w and auto tranny.

Come to think of it, my neighbor had a 89 f-250 with the 351w and a mazda tranny in it. I was surprised and checked out the code in the door jamb and actually crawled underneath and it was a mazda 5 speed.....
