1996 xlt 4x4 weight...
Had to run to the dump last night to drop off shingles.
Never knew the weight of my truck. It's extended cab, 4x4 with 5.0 Auto, 8 foot bed.
Empty with me, wife, and two kids it weighed 5,400lbs. We weight about 400 pounds total.
Factory weight is 6,250.
Interesting thing is the truck is registered with the state at 5,000 so we are over weight just driving around. Seems pretty silly.
I wanted to add where do they come up with these weights? I have 1500lbs on it the other day, stopped great, and had a good 6" or more before the bump stops hit. Heck it actually sat level.

The GVWR you see on the sticker is the total weight rating for the car....Basically the maximum load of the truck.
You say it was close to 5000 lbs on the scale.
It's a 1/2 ton rated truck.

and the weight that you CAN carry has no bearing on legality. Get into a serious wreck while overloaded, regardless of how the truck sits, and you're facing negligence charges if the officer/investigators push it or if someone with any knowledge drops a hint to the other party for a lawsuit. Deal with this allot. Negligence due to overloading is becoming a very common issue for pickup truck owners being as most manufacturers are making load capability claims higher than many state laws allow. It helps to know exactly what your vehicle stance is with it's rated capacity. You have to add in the weight of the fuel as well as you have mentioned, the weight of the passengers and driver. Our scrap metal guys around town are finding themselves on DOTD portable scales on the side of the road ALLOT and walking away with a ticket, impound and tow bill. Most often its more than the vehicles value!
