1995 ford f150 evap leak? failed emissions.

So,

I bought a '95 f150 a couple of weeks ago and was told by the previous owner that it passes emissions with no problems. I always take anything said with a grain of salt but the truck did run fabulously. Long story somewhat short, Arizona emissions has failed me because the evap system was leaky. I do not mind replacing all the components involved myself before taking the truck to my mechanic; I just wanted to ask if anyone has a diagram of the parts and hoses. Also, I have searched online to buy a new charcoal canister without being able to find one. Any knowledge provided from seasoned evap specialists (self taught mechanics too) on common issues would be appreciated. My truck has the 5.0 liter, 302 cubic inch motor and it carries two fuel tanks.

Thanks in advance!
Andrew

LMC truck has them.

On a evap leak sometimes they can be a pain to chase down the best and quickest way is to find a shop that has a smoke machine and put smoke through the system.

state to state

Thank GOD I live in Ga. We don't have all the emissions test for our auto's. I know my truck will fail. I'm working on fixing the issues to save on Gas but its crazy how state laws are diff.

Educate us how the Arizona leak test is performed. As the vehicle is a 95 and not OBD two, some type of manual test had to have been performed.

Unfortunately you are correct. Arizona runs the tailpipe for emissions, then pushes about a half pound of air into the gas tanks through the filler necks. If it leaks, they know.

I really wanted to avoid paying my shop to run the smoke although I know they can find the issue really fast like that. It may come down to that in the end.

Thanks for the LMC info. I will check there for a lay out.

You can make your own smoke machine if you had rather go that route. Go to a party supply store or to Ebay and pick up a fog/smoke machine. You'll have to adapt it from where the smoke comes out to where it will hook up to the evap system but you can do all of it for $50 or less.

I had the same problem on my 93 when I lived in AZ. What I found is on top of the fuel tank is a small rubber hose. Over time fuel causes this hose to expand. I replaced the hose and passed the next time I went through emissions. I had to drop the tank to access the hose.

MY brother used to have one of those party smoke machines. I will hit him up for that later, thanks!

Good to know about the common problem! I will drop my tanks and check it out.

Thanks for the input and I will post what comes of it.

i once had an 87 f150 that failed the fuel tank pressure test and i used a little pressure from my gas grill tank regulator till i found a cracked rubber connector underneath the bed near the gas tank......the inspector at the inspection lane showed me the hose they crimped when they did the test...it was under the hood....i just removed that one and took some rubber hose about the size of vacuum lines and connected the 20#propane tank with regulator..about 1/2 pound pressure...sounds kinda funny but it worked perfectly

I think I may have found where one of my leaks is. I was able to see the top of the front gas tank and noticed where the vacuum line connects to the tank was pulled up some. If I drop the gas tanks, I should have enough slack in the hoses to work on it and put it back right?

Thanks
