Damn pinging!!
Whats the deal on these 150's with a 302 that makes them ping? My truck is a 94 xlt with 138K miles, 302 and auto tans. I did a tune up, just so I know everything in that department is good.( just bought truck about 1.5 months ago)
Items I put on,
new autolite 25's, gapped at .054
new cap & rotor,
new wires,
new fuel filter,
new ECT sensor,
new 02 sensor,
Also seafoamed the tank and ran some through the VAC line. Checked timing and its at 10* with spout out..
I have been reading up on this and tired all suggestions from other post. Only thing I haven't done is, new knock sensor.. And from the locks of it, really don't want to mess with that, looks to be pain to get to.. But if it will fix the pinging i will..
Is it something in the computer, and the way it is programed??
And is there any other tips I can try???

Yea when I did the tune did fresh oil change.. That way I can keep my own records of when stuff was done..
I bought a knock sensor, since the truck most likely still has the factory one.. I figured 13+ years of service, it should be bout due to be replced..
Only question I have is,," How the hell do ya get back there to remove it??" lol..

Mine recently starting pinging a bit. I'm hoping it's due to the possibility of lower octane 'winter gas' being out early while the weather here is still pretty warm.
Tried the Sea-Foam, no help. Going to try a tank of mid-grade to see how things change, with plans to go back to regular when the weather cools for good.
If the ping is still there, guess I'll have to get motivated to try something else. Would be interested to hear what you eventually find.
I was thinking with knock sensors, operation could be first checked with a timing light??? By taking a hammer and beating on the block, see if the timing advances.
Also, are you sure your gap is right? I realize we have different model years, but mine is spec'd at 0.044".

Gapped them according to the tune up spec sticker on the hood. It show.052 - .056 , so I usally lit the diff.. Same gap I ran in my mustangs when they were stock..
So far with the things I have done and 93 octane, the pinging isn't as bad.. But still has light at part throttle under load. I bought a knock senor already, just haven't had time to replace it yet, but when I do will post results..

I checked the timing when I did the tune up. Made sure I was at the base of 10*..
Soon as I get time, going to replace the knock sensor. And will also check TPS sensor, just to cover all bases. The truck also had a new EGR valve when I bought it...

the tfi module could be bad check your timing with the spout out then put it in and see where the timing goes. and see how far it advances. I had a bad one on my 2.3 turbo motor. timing was fine with spout out, when you plugged it in it jumped up I cant remember how hi but. I ended up replacing the tfi then the distributor. I think they sell the dis. with or without the tfi. tfi is the grey module where the wires plug into it on the side. try driving it with the spout out and see what happens.

Hmmm,, will have to try the TFI.. have a couple laying around.. I mess with mustangs and have a few parts extra scattered through the garage..
