Question 1994 f150 exhaust

like the title says, i have a 1994 f150 and have a question. im curious to know where the resonator is. i have what looks to be two cats by the front axle. is one of those a resonator? and also i live in Illinois and am wondering do i need a resonator for the emissions tests?

As long as you have a muffler too then it sounds like you have everything you need.

I really don't know exactly what a resonator is. I also don't know what you need in your area but we just need the cat and muffler, as well as a proper exhaust exit point (after the cab for trucks). If they don't do the sniffer test in your area then you won't have a problem removing one of the cats. On mine both were cats but some others have said that only one of theirs was a cat and the other was I guess they said a resonator. I hollowed both of mine out and put them back on. It gave the truck a different sound, not necessarily louder but different.

No resonator on these trucks man. If you want to skimp down though, you may be able to remove one of your cats. Its iffy, and probably not worth it though in case it would fail emissions. You only NEED one for visual inspection, but if you only run one you may run too high and fail.

As a side note, no car NEEDS a resonator to pass emissions, its just a noise reducer. I've had friends remove them before, and depending on model, you sometimes get an annoying exhaust ring

in most states all you need is 1 cat and 1 muffler.
