Rear Tank Leak

Rear Tank Leak
I have a 95 Supercab with a 5.0. My rear tank leaked for years if I put more than 10 gallons in it. So I decided to replace it this weekend. Well I didn't go too well. Once I got the old one out and replaced it with a new It leaked like a pig. Got around 13 or 14 gallons and started coming out of the top of the tank. It didn't leak when it ran on 7 gallons so the fuel lines aren't in question. I believe its that damn O ring under the sending unit. Is there a trick to getting that thing sealed? I used the new one that came with the tank but it seemed a little small. I had the same issue with a Cherokee tank I did a few years ago and it took two tries to get it right.
Is there a trick to it or am I just screwed by this aftermarket tank?

No.... no trick its just a pain in the ***. I had the same thing happen on my 91. I ended up using just a little bit of rtv gasket sealer...not much just a little bit on both sides of the o ring. Just gotta make sure its damn clean when you put it together. Then left it set for a few hours to let it set up good before I put gas in it and that seemed to do the trick. Did the same on my 89 just last week. I'm sure some people would advise against it but I dont think it will hurt anything.
