Last night, while shifting out of 4-Lo, the shift lever seems to have come loose from the trasnfer case - just flopping around front to back and side to side. Of course this happened with the transfer case in neutral and the truck in the middle of the road.

I was able to move the shift lever around and get the truck back into 4-Lo so I could get it parked off of the road, but it was late and I didn't have the time or tools with me to look at it.

Going over tonight to take a look, and was hoping someone might have some insight as to likely causes, and what I should be keeping an eye out for. Also, if it's something that I can't fix roadside, is there a way to get the transfer case back into 2wd so I can at least get it home?

with the truck in neutral go under the truck and push the lever sticking out of the transfer case all the way back

you might have to pop that long rod off there, but at least it will be in 2wd to get you home.

Got it out of 4-Lo and home no problem. Seems to be a pretty easy straightforward repair. I see a trip to the U-Pull-It yard in my near future.
