Ok so after speaking with my dad, I guess it wasn't as bad as he thought and I might be able to get away with replacing the housing on top with the forks. So my question is what is that called on top of the transmission?

Mine wore out the 1-2 fork. That's all mine needs, the 1-2 fork. I welded nubs on my fork to keep going... twice.

Yea see after reading on here and looking around and asking, i was pretty sure it was just a worn fork. I wouldnt have thought the syncos were bad seeing how it shifted just fine untill one night where i just lost 1-2. I think broncoGY has forks for $25 or so, just give that a shot, dunno why my dad would say it was shot starting to think he just didnt wanna deal with it ha.

No sir that is the clutch release bearing fork. I suggest calling a transmission shop, parts for the 5 speeds are very easy to get. I just rebuilt one an the trans shop I use had everything in stock. They're not hard to replace.
