They go hand in hand man. Let them regulate your car, let them regulate your guns. Same issue different item. Don't allow it.
Rust holes could allow carbon monixide to enter the passenger compartment. I have windows that do the same thing.
It's an easily defeatable thing, if I can drive it in my state your state can't tell me I can't drive it in your state. It's the law.

One thing you aren't factoring in, doesn't take the inspection techs long to get a fat head. Or they think they are the savior of the roads. The human factor....gotta love it. You might not like inspections as much after your well maintained truck got picked apart once.

Up here in New York State pre OBD11 have no emissions test. I'v seen a lot of 96 or 97 truck scraped because of ECU issues. Parts from Ford are way more than the value of the truck.
