Default Eec reset question

I've got a question about the EEC. I've been changing some sensors lately (speed sensor, water temp. sensor, O2 sensor) and a couple of dash gauges, and possibly my oil sending switch, the water temp sensor on the block, and who knows what else. I've been viewing a few videos about reseting the EEC to remove any information that is stored to reset the truck to relearn driving habits. In particular, I was curious about reseting shift points. But I can't seem to find any information about reseting a 96 or if it can be done. All the Haynes manual says is to clear with the scanner or remove the negative cable and it will clear.

So am I to assume that there is no long term memory where I would drain the capacitors of energy to get back to day one? Is this truck too old for that type of reset? Is it reseting every time I clear the codes?

There is no "reset" for any Ford EEC/PCM. What you're talking about is "clearing adaptions", and it's done by removing power to the KAM (Keep-Alive Memory) for ~2 minutes; either by pulling the fuse, disconnecting the battery, or unplugging the PCM. Clearing codes is a different process, which does NOT clear adaptions because adaptions should almost never be cleared. But codes are also stored in KAM, so clearing adaptions also clears codes. The PCM is always learning & adapting, so you don't actually have to do anything to get it to adapt again. It's only when you've made a major change (usually repair of a long-term problem) that causes the current adaptions to generate poor operation of the drivetrain that they should be cleared.

Shift points are permanently programmed into the PCM - they cannot be changed, but the PCM will adapt them slightly.

BTW
A "duel" is a fight; "duAl" means 2. And "2door" doesn't distinguish a standard cab from an extended cab - they both have 2 doors, so you should clarify that, too.
