All the v8's will run between 30 to 45 psi. So 38 should run it.
When the FPR opens pressure drops as much as 5 to 8 psi so then it starts to get a bit sketchy whether it's enough to provide acceleration or not.
If you put a socket on the front crank bolt you can actually move the crank and pistons fairly easy but when the chain tightens against the cam it stiffens considerably.
You can rock it back and forth to get an idea of just how much slack you have in the chain and whether it's loose enough to have jumped a tooth.
I just changed my timing chain on Saturday (about 7 hrs all in) and with the new chain, lock to lock was about 1 1/2 degrees. Old chain was about 10 - not too bad yet.
If you get 20 degrees or more you might start being a little suspicious of it.
