Default 1989 f150 4x4 i6 good deal?

Found this truck on Craiglist 1989 f150 4x4 i6 it has a new engine out of a 96 with 100,00 miles on it, the odmeodom only has 5 digets, but I think it rolled over once so supposably I think it has around 180,00 on the drivetrain. It has almost no rust, only surface on the frame. Seams like it's been well kept. The guy provided the VIN, and was able to talk on the phone. He said he has a shop and when I go to look at it, he'll be able to put it on a lift even. He said he thinks it's currently missfiring, but he gonna be working on getting it fixed. He is currently asking $3800. He's about 30 mins away, is it worth going to take a look at it. I'm planning on dailying it, for at least the next two years. Does anything seam sketchy with this one?

the 4.9 is a great engine and simple to work on. they will also last forever if maintained good. they also won't cost as much too work on because they are so simple. just by reading your post it don't sound bad. if you have or get a picture of it that we be a better judgement

That does seem like it would be a great truck, all of the pickups from that era where mechanically sound, the truck even has all of its paint. but $3800 seems a bit expensive for a 30 year old truck imo.

it looks good for a 30 year old truck though. it's worth $3800 to me

Your pic doesn't show a '96 engine.

it doesn't look like a '96 4.9 to me either. it looks original to me. or it came from another '87-'91 f150

How can you judge if it is a newer engine or not from the picture? If it is getting transplanted into a bricknose I imagine they would have kept all of the original wiring and accessory brackets/intake, etc from the 89.

Not trying to be a smartass just genuinely curious. Don't know much about 4.9's either.

Well he told me the original blew and he swapped in one from a 96 with 100k on it and kept the distributor and sensors from the 89
