a/c charging question after new compressor and condenser. ( 08 4.6 )

i replaced compressor and condenser. then went to an hvac to pull vacuum and recharge with 134a. he pulled vacuum and waited/verified that system held vac. when he was about to charge system, he had an issue:leak at his tank/fitting, and wasn’t able to perform the recharge.

given anove, i two questions:

1) have enough 134a cans and the diy type recharge hose/gauge. can i perform the recharge just using these diy items (ie without vac pump and professional gauges)

2) is there a difference in performance/results between the small/common 134a cans, VS the same amount from a pros larger tank/supply?

appreciate any advice and info

Just returned from the KC Auto Show. Looked at several models of everything including an Expedition Platinum for $82,000. I had also looked at a F150 Platinum earlier in the week that was window stickered at $92,000. The Expedition showed more quality in many ways over the F150 yet was priced $10,000 less. I have read the F150 Platinum was Ford's most profitable vehicle and I saw the evidence today. New truck lots are full of XLs, Xlts, and lessor numbers of Lariats. Platinums are in very low numbers in the lots around here. I looked at one Lariat that was optioned nearly equal to a Platinum and it was $15,000 less than a Platinum. Ford's marketing apparently has it figured out as to what is best for Ford to maximize sales throughout the entire range.

I'm looking to purchase a new F150 soon. Has anyone here ever special ordered a truck?
I would like to get the options I want, and not what somebody else thinks I need. I've tried
the online "Build Your Vehicle" template, but it's still "you can't get that without this".

I know in the "good 'ol days" you could set down and order exactly what you wanted.
I realize it's a wait to get one, but is it possible? Our son works at Toyota and he was able to
order a Tacoma from them just like he wanted on a lease program. There was a couple of month wait,
but it came in just as ordered.

Is there anywhere you can see the options available? Also I'm on the fence about the Eco-Boost motors.
I would like to stay away from the turbos. I would appreciate any help or advice that would be helpful in
for the process.
Thanks in advance!

Jimmy

I just had my 2018 F-150 3.5L 136K miles 10 speed transmission rebuilt at the Ford dealership. I purchased the truck new and I've only towed a U-haul trailer about 5 times. Cost was just a hair under $5000 out the door it came with a 2 yr unlimited warranty on parts and labor. When I left the dealer the truck shifted like butter. Drove about 35 miles to a restaurant to eat. The truck felt great I got 24 mpg at 65 Mph coming home. I figured everything was good and happy I spent the money. I drove about 5 miles to my house from the restaurant and parked the truck on a level driveway. The next morning, I noticed a large pool of ATF fluid under the truck, just a guess but it looked like a quart under the truck and a drip from the transmission. I called the dealer and they sent a tow truck, they told me a hose was loose and I could come get it. I remember where I parked at restaurant so I went and looked at the spot where I had parked the night before and I didn’t see any fluid, even a mark and we were in the restaurant at least an hour. The transmission temperature was normal the entire drive home and I didn’t see any fluid back on the wheels or under carriage. I also didn't see any drips leading up my driveway. Somehow it decided to spring a leak overnight. That’s the puzzling part why did it decide to bust loose that night. It was in my driveway and no chance someone climbed under there and did anything. I am concerned that it may have been damaged on the drive home but again it shifted perfectly for the entire 40 some miles I drove it and the transmission temp was normal the entire time. I’ve heard many explanations on leaking transmissions but why nothing at the restaurant where it sat for an hour. That's my story and I'm happy I had it done, they had three options replace the CDF drums $3500, rebuild at the dealership with OEM parts $5000 or new transmission $9000 2 year unlimited miles parts and labor for the first two- and 3-years unlimited miles for the factory new.

2011 F150 5.0 230k miles. I have replaced the exhaust and intake oil control solenoid actuators and connectors. The exhaust camshaft position sensor. All on bank 1 passenger side. All motorcraft parts. I get 9.9 volts at the solenoid plug from pin to pin from the connector with key on not running. I get 12.4 volts to power side pin. And 2.5 volt on the pcm pin signal with key on not running. All 4 solenoids read the same volts on all connectors. Pcm reference volts are 5 volts. From pcm harness to signal connector pin .2 ohms. It is intermittent. The truck does have rust under the body. The truck runs good for the most part. The light comes on and off on its own. At times when the cel comes on, i feel the gas pedal vibrating.

After contemplating which way to go in replacing my 2017 EB 3.5, I looked at a lot options. I was leaning towards some higher trim levels, and really like the Tremor. But in the end, something more practical won me over. I found a very clean 22000 mile 2023 SC XLT FX4, with a lot more options than I think are found on the XLT for a fair price. Avalanche on black, black out package, 360 camera, tow package, 3.5L, power rear slider, interior work surface, tailgate step and bed utility pack, etc.

Time to start looking at the upgrades to make it mine. BIG difference from the 2017. and is taking a little getting used to but I'll have it dialed in. The truck feels bigger to me, but I know it's really not.

Right away, I'll add the rear wheel liners, ceramic tint, maybe ceramic treatment on paint, PPF for the front, and tires before long. I'm not a fan of the factory Hankooks. It has a soft rollup bed cover, but I will change that to something more protective at some point. Maybe the Diamondback V2 Switchback.

Any must have suggestions, I'm all for hearing them. BTW, I really don't like that Ford took away the lid for the storage compartment in from of the console. Save a buck here and there I guess.

EDIT - I decided to try and delete this after posting it. I'm not sure if this kind of post is still okay here. I feel like I've not seen them much. Admin, please delete if not appropriate. It's been a while since I changed my truck

I am looking to put 295/70 r18 tires, or 34 inch tires, on my truck, but I’m worried about adding stress to the transmission. I took my 2018 F150 2WD 2.7L engine with a 10r80 transmission and 83,000 miles to the mechanic and they said there wasn’t any problems with it, but they said “it would add more stress on the transmission if I put bigger tires on.” I bought the truck with 275/70 r18 tires, 33 inch tires, and have had them on forever. If I put bigger tires on, I plan to get 2.25 inch leveling struts, get an alignment, and anything else I need to accommodate this change. Do yall think I could put the tires on without damaging anything too much, or should I toss the whole idea.
P.S. This is my very first post and I’m brand new to all of this. I apologize in advance if I’m giving too much or too little info or posting this in the wrong spot. Please let me know if there’s any other info I need to give. Thank you!
