    Oh, as I recall the early 4.2 V6's had an issue with the timing cover. The early covers where very thin and warped causing a lost of coolent, which drains into the crankcase. What it looks like is a blown head gasket. So before you crack the heads make sure it isn't the timing cover. They improved the design so if you have to replace it the new part fixes the problem. Of course if the head gasket is blown you will see steam coming out of the exhaust on a cool morning.

    Hey fellow Forder. I saw that someone said that you made a posting about the 1997 f150 4.2. I would love to know what it was about if you don't mind. My head gasket blew this morning. Thanks alot for your time.

    Hey Trans, if you get a chance, take a look at the thread pre97 section mamber The13redi. I don't want to come off being an idiot, what is he saying about installing the trans. I feel he didn't engage the torque converter into the pump and messed everything up. Perhaps Ford has made a change that I am not current on. Thanks, Bill
