    That's kind of what I was thinking as well. Thanks for your input. Just maybe looking for a beater 4x4. I like the older body style as well and think the low end torque of the I-6 would be nice. Preferably finding a extended cab short bed 4x4 4.9 w/ 5spd would be a little tricky. Thanks though for your input I'm just always shopping different stuff.

    Depends on what you're looking for, the 4.9 has more torque but the 4.2 has more hp. The 4.9 is a proven engine but I don't have any complaints about the 4.2 and I don't hear anyone else complaining about it and mine has 150,000 on it and still running strong. I would say if you're looking to buy go test drive some trucks with these engines, personally I like the styling of the older trucks with the 4.9 engines better but it may be hard to find one in good enough shape to make it worth buying.

    alright you've owned both, 4.9 or 4.2 with a 5spd? everything I read points me toward the 4.9 what's your opinion
