I did the Gotts mod really didnt notice much, but when you pull the end piece out of the fender well it is choked down to like half the size of the hole, which cant be good. The Gotts mod was like $5 so you aren't out much.
I used the wheel bearing grease to try to seal the joints up too
I hit the U joints with PB blaster already and was gonna spray some white lithium grease on there, maybe I'll give that wheel bearing grease a shot instead. I like the idea of pushing it up into that piston too, I think that's where I need to hit at this point.
I just came in from doing all 8 plugs and coils and repairing a hole in my exhaust pipe, trucks driving real smooth so I'm happy with it. Any experience with Gotts Mod? Seems like it would barely make a difference...
I sprayed a lot of PB Blaster in the old to loosen in up they let it dry out. I used a wheel bearing grease. I flipped the rubber seals out of the way and tried to push grease into the joint with my fingers. Just glob of grease on your finger tip and push it into the corners. Keep doing that over and over. Then a I put a covering of grease over everything. Like cover the whole joint in grease then just wipe off with your finger, leaving a thick coat over the joint areas
Saw your post on the steering column how to:
"why pay for a new one when you can just lube up the old one? I lubed mine up about a year ago and its still fine"
And was wondering how you got in there to grease the lower shaft...did you remove it to grease it and then reinstall? My steering stiffened up and I was able to mostly correct the issue by cleaning and lubricating both U joints, but it is still just a little sticky and I was thinking it might help to lubricate the part that slides in and out. Thanks very much,
