gas door rust fix project
November 16, 2011
first i sanded the rusty spots on the gas door jam and masked off a 1/2 inch ring around the entire door jam. then sanded all the area that i had masked off to give the paint something to stick to.
masked fuel door opening
as you can see i had sanded down to the metal where the rust was then i masked off the 1/2 inch circle around the opening
then i scuffed all the area i wanted covered in paint
note the gas fuel neck is out of the way. and you cant get the fuel door off without removing the fuel neck.
then i masked off the over spray area
first coat of rust reforming primer
final primer coat and now the dupli color bed armor final coats.
first coat of the bed armor it looks like crap when its first applied but it turns out really nice when it drys and you have to practice on some cardboard b4 you start painting your fuel door opening. you mite have to keep back a foot to a foot and a 1/2 with the spray can. do lite coats and allow each coat to dry just until its tacky b4 you apply each coat.
finished painting masking tape removed. you have to remove the masking tape as soon as your done applying the final coat because if it drys with the masking tape on then when you go to remove the tape you'll peel your bed armor paint with the tape cause its kinda rubberized but its not cheap rubberized paint its good stuff.
the truck is dirty so it looks a little messy but those little white lines around the new paint are just masking tape glue i didnt wipe off yet.
