Possesed Wipers

Possesed Wipers
I have a "97" F150XL, with a wiper problem. They work when they want to, not necessarily when you need them. Sometimes only the wash will work, when they delay and regular work. Sometime only the regular and delay will work, but not wash. I can start the truck and they might work or not work, in 5 minutes or less usually, it will change. I have had the wipers on high while driving and would actually see them slow down, speed up, etc. Until they will eventually quit. Sometimes for 5 minutes, sometimes longer. Usually it won't change until, I start it the next time. Then it starts all over again. This will happen rain or shine. I notice it most when its raining (of course). But I randomly do this when it is not and experience the same issues. I have replace the switch 3 times, the motor once. Have tried jiggling the switch connection (to check for a possible loose wire) while driving with no avail. I had our local mechanic look at it look at it and he could find no issues, suggested replacing the motor. I did, no change. OPEN FOR SUGGESTIONS

On my '89 F150 Custom, 2 things happen:
1. Wipers run fine for a couple of minutes then start working erratically, off and on.
2. Wipers do nothing when switched on until motor is tapped with a hammer. Then they begin working off and on.
When I turn on the switch, you can see the electrical gauge move. I have looked high and low for the junctionbox and have found nothing. Is it more likely that it is a motor issue?
It has the 2-setting switch. Thanks.

I was trying to be sure before I take it out. It started this a couple of years ago and the guy who does the harder jobs on the truck changed out the switch. It worked fine for awhile then started the same old. Sounded to me like it could be old soldered connections in the junction box but I've never been able to track down that box.
