Default cluster swap

I tried the search feature but could not find the answer to my question. I have a '95 F150 XLT, 300 ci six with a 5 speed manual trans and I'd like to swap the non tach cluster for one with a tach. I'm guessing that there may be some issues especially since most of the tach clusters probably came from trucks with the V8s and auto slushboxes....

Default cluster swap

Well I do not have a tach I ordered and aftermarket one but you will have to find a standard with a tach in the cluster then it's just plug and play

Bought a cluster w/ tach from Ebay which I received and installed yesterday; swap was simple and straightforward. It's too bad Ford didn't deem it necessary to make this cluster standard especially with the manual transmission trucks....

I'm thinking that I have a grounding problem. When I first bought the truck, the previous owner, a close friend and co-worker said that the fuel gauge for the front tank(when switched) power windows and power locks quit working over a year ago; since I work at a dealership, I have co-workers who are repair techs and one of them diagnosed the problem as a "bad" ground. Well he "fixed" the problem by cutting the ground wire for the windows and wiring a direct ground to the chassis. Now the problem is every once in a while, my "CHECK ENGINE" light comes on and the fuel gauge will work and then quit. Any of you guys have this same problem??

I know this is an old post, but I've been looking to do the same thing and just had a question, was there a wire for the tach already there or did you have to run one?

Nothing difficult in doing this swap; simply unplug the two harnesses from the old cluster and plug them into the new cluster....

Yup. The only thing you need to be aware of are wiring changes from '91 thru '93, from '94 and '95 and '96...you said you have a '94, so the cluster you need has to be the one from a '94 or '95.

I have a '95 cluster with tach that I bought last year for my truck, but I really wanted the 120mph Lightning cluster which I did find a month later. I gave $75 for the regular cluster with tach on Ebay, but if you are interested, I will let you have it for $50.

Nope, all you need to do is change out your speedo in place of the one in the cluster, that way you keep your mileage...other than that, the swap is pretty much remove and replace. It's also the best time to swap out the bulbs and put in fresh new ones.
