Default 1996 150 Starter problem

Hey guys, I bought this truck a few months ago from a buddy. He was just gonna scrap it because it has some issues with the brakes and power steering. So I gave him scrap price for it and have been using it as a farm pickup ever since. Has did good so far but I have had some issues with the starter. It will usually crank and start right up when the engine is cool. But sometimes when you go to start it warm it just clicks when you hit the key and won't even try to crank. If you let it sit for a few hours then it will start right back up.
It has been sitting a few days and when I went to start it it started but sounded very rough trying to start. Almost like a rattle and grind cranking it over at variable speeds. Let it cool and tried it again and it did the same thing. Started though. Maybe because it is very wet out? Starter, bad wire, or solenoid issue? Thanks.
