Default 4:10 gears ?

I have 1996 inline 6 f150 manuals 4 speed if overdrive . It has open 3:08 gearing . I have 33"s on it right now . I'm buying 35"s would 4:10 gears work good with the 35"s ?

Also I have a parts truck . It has 3:55 limited slip rear end . Would it be easier to re built it then to make the differential with 3:08 gearing a limited slip ?

Thanks Brendan

4.10's will make it feel like stock again, maybe even a bit snappier. I went with 4.10's and my truck just felt like it did when it had 31's.

when you put your 4:10 in did you have to change the carrier in the differentials ?

4.10s would be much better suited to the 35's.

(carrier) Should not have to (unless damaged) , but I would..... either a lunchbox locker or a detroit trutrac at the minimum for the rear, you have it tore open anyways, and will have to rest your backlash and pinion depth so if you are going to regear and do not have a locker already then you might as well spend the extra 300ish for an aussie locker or any of the various "lunchbox" lockers available.

most people do not realize the difference a good locker will make in the rear of a truck. You can go further [and get stuck further out ] with a locker and stock tires than you can with a set of offroad tires and an open diff.

With a set of 35's, 4.10 gearing and a locker and you can get stuck so deep you need a tractor or dozer to come fetch you out. now thats real fun
