Just in case you're still working on this plan, here's a couple pics of a 95 ext cab s/box 4x4 with the body out of the way.


Don't forget that the front end gears and the rear end gears have to match.
The front end (dana 44) is as simple as you think it is.
The transmission/ transfer case may be a little more complicated.
Electrical may be an issue - the motor and transmission have to match the computer. If you have electric shift, you need a whole lot of wiring and the control module from the cab.
It's not a weekend project (not without some serious tools, equipment and experience), but you can change the front end as one project and the trans/ transfer case as another project.
I still wouldn't advise starting on Friday if you absolutely need your truck for Monday morning. Stuff can just sometimes not go the way they're supposed to.
