Default 95 rear axle question

was doing a little work on the 95 today and while looking at the rear diff I noticed wires coming out of the top of the housing, I haven't unpacked my manuals from the move and was curious what they are for, anybody know?

They're for your speedometer and rear abs I believe.

Then you have an open diff. If the wires/plug come out of the top middle toward the front side of the diff its the speed sensor/abs sensor. You can also check your axle codes with the door jam sticker. If it has a letter in the code (like H9 or something) its L/S. If its just a number (like 19) its open diff.

open diff on a 4X4?, gonna try and take a closer look when I get time this weekend, pinion seal started to leak Saturday, not looking forward to changing, may just go ahead and pull cover and clean everything and replace axle fluid.

I have a 4x4 with an open diff. Its not like it's a unicorn, it's actually pretty common as far as I've seen.

guess I was expecting it would need to have some sort of limited slip or something, its my first 4X4, sorta ignorant on the drivetrain portion making up the 4X4
