Default Will Alternator charge w/o Instrument cluster?

This is a subject loosely related to the "Tach Cluster" swap where people discovered no charging after swapping a different year tach cluster. I can't however find specific reference to "running without a cluster" in the forum. I have a '93 F150 with factory tach. I'm installing a custom built cluster with aftermarket gauges - so I'll be removing the OEM Cluster. I did find some references on the internet from gauge vendors that stated that "Some nissans and Fords require the cluster to be installed for the alt to charge". My research indicates that in some cases, the "Alt" idiot bulb is what "excites" the alternator to charge - and without it, no charge. If this is the case, I presume I could simply run a resistor (or a bulb) on the idiot light leads.

Anyone run sans instrument cluster on a '93 for any length of time?

Mine did. It ran and drove without a cluster in just fine
