Default What the heck is this thing?

Aftermarket electronic of some sort. Looks like a couple wires are spliced into the harness below the steering column. It looks like it has a light and a button on it, but I'm too ascared to try the button.

Any ideas?

Hehe. I may have to, although, I don't even think it's hooked up, really. At least one wire appears cut. I'd love to just cut the other wires and get rid of it, but I'd like to figure out what it is first.

I know it was originally owned by a volunteer fireman. It could go to the lights, a siren, or maybe it's part of a security system?

Those wires are bright red, they have to go somewhere.

Part of a dealer inst security system that the buyer didn't want to pay for so they just deactivate and leave it in there

I found one of those on a Camry I owned, it didn't want to start one day so when I went to check there it was, bigger than Dallas-took it out of the system and it started right up.

The one solid red one you see is cut. I'm guessing it is a 12v source, but haven't checked to be sure. The rest are thinner wires, with red and white stripes. Those are the ones that are still connected and all taped up.

I wonder if everything will still work if I just cut them?

You might need to connect two together, with the power lead hooked up it had to shut down something connected to the rest of those wires.
