Earlier I went to start my truck and let it warm up a little before taking off. I had gone back inside, when I came back out the cab was full of smoke. Popped the hood and could see smoke coming from the back side the motor. Can't find the problem though. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

Well.. I guess we need to figure out if the source was electrical, oil, fire, steam. Does everything work?

Wasn't able to find anything wrong. I know the fuel gauge doesn't work, not sure why. I know the fuel pump is fine, had it tested. The temperature gauge acts weird, keeps bouncing around. But lights, stereo and other electrical stuff work just fine.

Hershy314, what kind of smoke does it smell like, as 5 Ranger asked before, oil, electrical, steam or what?

Smells a little like electrical smoke, but wasn't able to find any burnt or shorted wires.

One wire or one small component can make alot of smoke. The acrid smell of burnt electrical wiring or components does not smell like any other burnt smell.

I honestly don't know what it was, but til I figure it out the truck is staying parked. Which is bad cause it's my only vehicle.

Well.. if an electrical system ceased working after the smoke, it would be a prime suspect, otherwise, follow your nose and your eyes. Other areas that would be prime to me would be after market add ons like a sound system or alarm. Another area of concern is the start circuit, positive wire down to the starter. Also, another area of concern is wiring from the alternator, not sure of your year but older 2nd generation alternator systems were prone to fires.

Well, you think maybe it could be the heater core, it wouldn't hurt to either run a pressure test or start it and let it run while you are standing in or near the truck and see just where the smoke or steam or whatever it is, is coming from
