Default No speedo? Yes i read but this is different

It's a 96 automatic with a 5.0 . When I got the truck the speedo bounced all over abs light was on and overdrive flashed. I put a new vss in and everything was good for a month then started bouncing again then died altogether. I pulled the code and it says p0500 vss? So I bought a new one put it in and nothing. I did some reading alot and thought maybe psom but when a psom typically dies the odometer is not working, but in my case it is still working and when they key is engaged the speedo needle comes up off the pin it normaly sits on. I also read that if the psom goes bad that the truck would shift ruff and mine is smooth as butter, After more reading it possibly could be a faulty abs module, is there a way to test it? My abs light is allways on. Any help would be great.

The wires to the sensor plug are a common problem.

I figured it out it was a broken wire inside the shething from the vss. I just spliced it and heat shrunk it and good to go all the codes are gone and speedo works fine. Problem solved.
