I test it before on my truck (before I mount it) the way you said and it works,I saw the spark from the coil wire, Then I mounted and run all the wires to the coil, but when I hook them to the coil, truck does not start.
About the harness, the box come with the connectors already at end of the cables.I think they got the harness and took the plastic cover off. I dont think is nothing else inside the plastic cover beside the wires or if it makes any difference.
I was thinking the same way with connectors if some thing happen to msd box just unplug them and hook it to the coil the normal way.
Now that I know it should work I double check all my wires again during weekend.
