Lost key replacement/Ignition bypass
Hi All
I have a 94 extendacab pickup as a farm truck. Wouldn't you know it but I moved it just before our last snowstorm and the one and only key fell out of my pocket and onto the ground, only to get covered with snow! I know I'll find it in the spring but in the meantime how do I get a new key or how can I modify the truck to start with out a key? The truck is on the farm so there is no worry about someone stealing it and it is so beat up that no one would anyways.
thx

You can buy a key and switch at most parts stores ( autozone, advanced, etc.) but it won't match the door. If your column is like my '96, then its an easy change.

Thanks momoniz,
It's the ignition switch I need. I'm not worried about the door. I read elsewhere on how to take the ignition out so I'll just take the old keyless ignition out and put in a new ignition switch with 2 new keys.
Sounds simple enough, thanks!

If you know about where you dropped it, and know someone with a metal detector, I think I would try that first. Forge-World-Ford is right about the key, I replaced mine because it was worn out so I used the key to remove. But there might be a way to remove without the key, don't know.

Well I took the plastic cowling off the bottom of the steering column and exposed the ignition cylinder housing. There is a pinhole there and I was told that you insert a metal pin (old screwdriver fit) in the hole and the cylinder will slide out.
The hole is there and you can see the cylinder turn as you turn the key insert (a bit of slop), but there is no opening through the cylinder to push on anything. A locksmith said it has to be in neutral to do this but without a key it sits in P.
I think memoniz is right and I'll have to borrow a metal detector somewhere.
Any other thoughts, suggestions? I heard that if you send in the VIN number, Fordcan cut you a new key?
