Default ignition wiring/starting issue

Hey guys I hope this is the right topic to post in but I am in need of some guidance on a wiring issue with my ignition. Back story in a nutshell: truck wasn't starting, narrowed it down to ignition switch installed new switch but as I was installing the mounting bolts on steering column snapped so I could not get the switch to sit in the right spot to initiate the starting sequence. I decided to install a push to start by means of still keeping ignition switch in place, turn the key to power everything then push to start to finalize sequence. Install was fine and easy started truck by that means about 5 times to make sure it was working. I come back following week, yesterday, to start truck, push to start does not work. I thought maybe I fried the switch which is a 20amp switch but i started checking from source first. Battery is not dead, I thought perhaps the switch was pulling steady juice or something but battery has 12.5volts with voltmeter test. Then I pulled the switch to test for continuity, I get tone so switch is good correct? Test wires as well and same positive test for continuity. Did I fry a fuse somewhere??? I am at a total loss and in need of help. Thanks guys. Oh yea, the wires I fed to the push to start are the red/light blue the leads from the solenoid and the yellow power as well. I pulled these out of the ignition switch harness.

You want to use a test light to see if the little push on connector on the fender mount relay (solenoid) is getting power when you push the button.
If that wire isn't getting power when the button is pushed, it's something to do with what you did.
If that wire is getting power then what you did is working and the problem is the battery - solenoid - starter wiring.

So I am now completely and utterly confused. I unplugged everything; battery, push to start button and retested everything with the volt meter. All items had the same results, battery tested 12+ volts, continuity at wires I attached to push to start as well as at solenoid and push to start itself when engaged. Reattached everything and truck started right up on the first try. I changed nothing except undid everything and let sit for 2 days. Any idea what the hell is going on???

I would guess you had a crappy connection. Maybe it's time to go over them all and make them nice and shiny clean and tight.

annnnnnnd I let it sit for a day and just tried to start it; no start. Not quite sure what the deal is but I can't do anything with it until the weekend or later some time in the week. One last question however, if the switch is supposed to have an inline fuse with it, could that be the issue? If so, which wire should I put the inline fuse in, solenoid wire or battery (yellow) wire? Thanks!
