ignition switch problem
Ok here is the problem I seem to be having I have a 91 f 250 4x4 xlt (i know this is the 150 forum) but the steering columns are the same I believe. when I turn key to the start position the key seem to jump a cog and i have to align the key in run and remove the cylinder. Stumped don't know what to start replacing. This is a tilt column.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the site! We generally ain't too picky about being exclusively for F150s only. :-)
What seems to be a relatively common problem with these model years is the failure of a pot-metal (spell that 'cheap') cast piece that transfers the rotational motion of the key cylinder to the linear motion required to actuate the actual switch at the base of the steering column. I've had to replace mine twice in the 21 years I've owned it.
Have to remove the steering wheel to replace. Any Ford parts counter guy having any experience whatsoever will know exactly what you're talking about. Unfortunately, I've found this to be a dealer-only part.
If you haven't picked up a Chiltons book or the like by now, this may be a good opportunity - it has the procedure to replace. There are a couple of quirks to get right, so's you only have to do the job once.
Not saying for certain this is your problem, but it sounds really close.
Good luck, and keep us posted.

Update replaced the pot metal part to actuator rod and that has not solved problem.
I have tried to reclock the gear to actuator linear gear but at start position still jumps a tooth. Any ideas ? Replacement column is that next option

It's available at most auto parts places. About 15.00 I believe. The Ford one is the same exact POS pot metal...Find the youtube video on it with the redneck...lol. He has a great trick on making it a lot easier to change.
edit..missed the last post. Did you happen to replace the cylinder itself, that happened on mine when my uncle went el cheapo and replaced it with a $20 AZ one instead of ther $40 Ford cylinder..
