What information I have gathered so far is that the headlights for a 1996 F150 are dual beam and it takes a 9007 bulb.
So I will be looking at a Dual-Beam Bi-Xenon HID Headlight Conversion Kit.
I am tossing back and forth between either 5000K or 6000K.
Can anyone that has upgraded to HID tell me the better kit to purchase? I am pretty sure to deal with a USA seller with a decent warrenty, but there are soooooo many kits out there. Just trying to get an answer from anyone with experience with the kits.
Your answers are very much appreciated. (Please, no HID haters.)

I have HID's on my 93 F150. I used a Halogen High kit so only my low-beam is HID. I did this so my daytime running lights work as normal. With the HID hi/lo kits you may run into issues with your DRL's.


My kit is the 6K, I don't have experience with 5K so I can't really comment on that.

I have a dual position light switch. First click is for running lights, second click is for low beam headlights. High beams is on a different switch (column switch). Not sure why I should have any problems with switching lights seperately, but thank you for the input, I will keep it in mind if I have any problems.

I believe that I will go with the 6000K brightness, even though most useable light is under 5000K.

The potential problem is that the DRL's are run off of the high beam circuit at 7V and HID's need a minimum of 11-12V to fire so you may not have properly working DRL's if using the hi/lo kit. Just FYI.

It just dawned on me. I don't have daytime running lights. My running lights do not come on when I turn the key on to start the engine.
However, you are from Chilliwack, British Columbia, and mandatory by law, Canadian vehicles must have daytime running lights.
I believe that newer US vehicles have this, but not older vehicles. It sure makes a difference in the price of the kits.

Haha, ok I guess you don't need to worry then. You will definitely be happy with the HID's they make a HUGE difference over standard halogen bulbs.

Yes, it is going to make a BIG difference. I also ordered new headlight housings as the ones that I have are very dull. I have used the polishing kits to bring back the clarity twice now, but they seem to become dull a lot faster than when they were new. If they would only bring back the full glass headlights, but we know that will never happen.

i got the 6000k with clear housings for my truck hi/lo and i wish i would of got 5000k or lower, the blue gets a little annoying if you drive through fog alot.

I don't drive through a lot of fog and fog lights are something I will be adding too. 6000K should not have any really noticeable blue light as it is considered the color of white diamond. 5000K is the limit of what is called useable light, actually 4300K to 4500K. 8000K definately starts the blue light appearence. I am also told that sometimes it depends on the wattage, the difference in color between using 35w and 55w HID's.
I guess I will have to see how it actually turns out, I have already purchased the 6000K / 9007 bulbs. If it becomes annoying, I have no problem selling the 6000K and getting 5000K.

I would not put hid's in stock housings, they are meant to be in projectors.
