Default Gauges act funny

Ever since I've owned my 1996 Eddie Bauer my temp, oil press., sometimes amp gauge acts funny, like I turn on the head lights and all those needles on those gauges move a 1/4 up or down the gauge, I've replaced the battery, had the alternator tested several times and it failed once(tested by auto stores) thanks for any help!

If the ALT failed test, I would put my money on the ALT..... Its probably got a faulty regulator. I would replace it before it leaves you stranded.

i don't trust there test... Amp gauge reads in the middle 24/7, after the new starter and battery the truck always fires as soon as you touch the key, 3500 miles later trucks still running fine...

Hey EddieBower,
did you ever figure out what's going on with your gauges? I've got an 89 4X4 and the gauges seem screwy. They don't move from where they're at when you turn it off. Then when you start it they all reset. Someone suggested that my alternator was going bad but it seems to work just fine...

I have not, my guess is a weak ground or alternator

One suggestion is to reseat the connectors going to the instrument panel.
