Default Check engine light on then off

92 f150
5.0
Driving home the other day and the check engine light came on. Pulled into the gas station to fuel, shut it down, fueled up and when I started the truck again the check engine light was off. It stayed off for the remainder of the drive home. Drove the truck a couple times since and the light hasn't come back on yet. Haven't had the chance to check for any codes yet and just wondering what could cause this?

Codes will tell you - should be stored. If you live in a cold area, it could be related to that.

I do live in a cold area, roughly -20 lately. The codes that came up were 331 and 327 both relating to EGR. I am thinking about just leaving them alone or soon some sort of EGR delete. What do you think?

Could be as simple as frost. Just delete the codes and don't worry about it unless the problem comes back.

If the problem comes back and I don't bother to fix it could this do damage to the engine in the long run?

Not really a major concern. It's just exhaust gas recirculation. It burns it again to lower emissions. Not like low oil pressure or high temperature. Just might have issues with an e-test if it's not working.
Nothing to really worry about unless it sticks open which recirculates exhaust all the time instead of just at the right time. That would make your truck run like crap sometimes, in which case you would want to fix it up.
In the meantime, not an emergency, don't sweat it. Probably just a cold weather blip anyway.
