I don't have a need to do it yet, or the money to anyway. I hate any electric work and I suck pretty bad at it honestly. That's why when I have to do any electrical work I research the crap out of it, get all my materials together, and take my time. I get help if I need it, which I usually do, from someone who actually knows what they're doing. Non of it is really that difficult anyway. If you can do a tune up on your truck then you can easily put in a 3g alternator, even if you're like me and have to wire a new plug in. The rectifier thing was mostly to you, so you could look it up if you want. Not sure what a new rectifier and diodes would cost but I'm assuming less than a newish 200amp alternator? I've read it at several sites just haven't really dug into it because I don't need a 200 amp. Yet. Eventually, because I plan on several electrical additions to my truck. Better stereo set up, putting in my CB with any , extra lights, maybe an air compressor because I've seen a few people talk about it here, winch, etc.

But to OP, 130 amp is plenty and I think any 3g is plug and play for you since you have a 93. I have a 92 that originally had a 2g so I had to change a plug and some wires. At best you can just swap one straight in, at worst you have to do a little wire work. No big deal just keep any technical info you need close at hand and take your time. Plan it for a day or two off if you don't think you can do it very quick.

I can tell you if you are ****ty at sauldering id recommend having that done by someone you can trust whos good lol first alternator i rebuilt i used way to much and shorted out pretty bad with a cool fire ball lol lucky for me it was in class and nothing got hurt.

the way i see it, why not upgrade to the 200amp now? its not tough and you can actually go out and buy one already made for 100-140 bucks. I might be upgrading my 93 soon just to get rid of the damn dim when i turn the heater fan up a notch lol.

Honestly though If you got some time and a work bench you can rebuild an alternator and swap out the rectifier and all that jazz the tough part it seems is to locate the parts. I guess these days no one rebuilds alternators anymore.

As for me, my brother is pretty good at soldering. I'm not too bad if I've got what need. The only thing that would hold anyone back from a 200 amp would be money I think. I did the 130 pretty cheap but the 200 is a little chunk of money a lot of people can't afford to lose at one time. That's up to OP though. Still have to do the same thing to upgrade, it'll just cost more for a 200 amp.
