4 hours later won't start with key
90' 302 5.0 started this morning and drove to work fine as normal. 4 hours went to leave for lunch and it wouldn't crank. Battery shows 12.4 volts. So I cleaned the terminals and reconnected. No fuel pump sound, no solenoid clicks or starter moans. Bought a new solenoid and starter, and put them in 4 hours after that. Total now is 8 hours. Battery now showed 0.5 volts. It drained. Made sure I had wipers lights and radio all off. Put in a new battery and still nothing. Took a screwdriver and bumped the two main solenoid terminals and it started up just fine. Shut off the key and attempt to restart in the cab. Nothing happens. Dash lights work, dome, radio so key is letting juice flow to cab. Could it be my ignition switch? Safety switch on clutch? Or key column switch? FYI alternator was charging while running with 13.0 volts so that is filled out a short on the charging side.
Hate chasing down electronic problems, so I always buy manual transmissions for this reason. Anyone got a clue.

How to find something draining the battery. Charge up the battery and disconnect the positive cable. Get a test light and hook one end to battery cable and the other to battery terminal. If the test light lights up, something is draining the battery. Make sure doors are closed and no lights are one when doing this. Pull fuses one at a time till the light turns off or goes extremely dim. The problem will be in the circuit that turns off the light. If there is something draining the battery, let me know what circuit and I can help you diagnose from there.
